Officers of the Ogun State Community and Social Orientation Safety Corps (So- Safe Corps), formally Vigilante Service of Ogun State (VSO), have been charged to be professional in the discharge of their duties and continue to justify the confidence reposed in them.

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, gave the charge at the official flag off of the Corps, held at the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, said one of the challenges faced by his administration in 2011 was the issue of insecurity, noting that it was a period when financial institutions in Ogun East Senatorial District of the State shut down operations, due to incessant attacks of men of the underworld.

Amosun pointed out that there was similar experience in Ogun West Senatorial District, where enormous cross border criminal incidences were recorded and the State witnessed a high level of insecurity at all levels.

“However, following the convocation of a security summit, a Security Trust Fund was launched in 2012, which led to the establishment of the Vigilante Service of Ogun State, with the responsibilities of combating community crimes and since its creation, the Corp had lived up to its expectation “,

While acknowledging the unprecedented success story of the outfit, the Governor noted that it has helped in the areas of community policing and combating crimes in the State, as well as its environs.

He, therefore, advised management and Officers of the Corp to be courteous, continue to make the citizens comfortable and discharge their duties without intimidation, adding that the Agency law was assented to in December 2017.

In his response, the State Commander of So- Safe Corps, Mr. Soji Ganzallo, appreciated the State Government for formally unveiling the new identity of the Corp, adding that when VSO came on board in 2011, it had within two months of its operations mopped up over 180 arms and ammunition from suspected kidnappers and robbers in the State.

Why We Arrested PDP’s Adeleke – Nigeria Police

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), on Monday night, said  Ademola Adeleke, the lawmaker representing Osun west senatorial district, was detained in connection with ongoing criminal investigations against him. The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), on Monday night, said  Ademola Adeleke, the lawmaker representing Osun west senatorial district, was detained in connection with ongoing criminal investigations against him.

Giving an update on Adele’s detention during an interview with TheCable, Frank Mba, force spokesman, said Adeleke will be charged to court on Tuesday (today), May 7.

His words:  “Senator Adeleke is currently in police custody. He was taken into custody in the evening of today 6th May 2019 in connection with ongoing criminal investigations touching on his person.

“Meanwhile, in the best tradition of natural justice and fair hearing, he has already been served with the relevant charge sheet containing his alleged offenses in the presence of his Attorneys. He will be arraigned in a competent court of law tomorrow, 7th May 2019.”

Naija News recalls that the police had arraigned the 2018 Osun governorship candidate for alleged examination malpractice.

Reacting recently, Adeleke’s campaign organisation accused the force of working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the detention.

“The principal of the secondary school attended by Senator Adeleke testified through affidavit before Bwari High Court that the school indeed issued the testimonial. WAEC equally testified that the Senator sat for the examination. For the Police to revive this old clarified issue confirms political vendetta,” it said in a statement.

Naja News had reported earlier that  Adeleke, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2018 governorship election in Osun state, southwest Nigeria, was detained by the police.

This online news platform understands that the Osun West lawmaker honoured an invitation at the force headquarters in Abuja before he was detained.

We are launching soon!

Vigilante Service of Ogun State set to launch their website soon. This was publicized by the PRO of the group on Thursday. The group which had their grassroots history thus:

Interestingly, some people of like minds from the three geo-political zones in Ogun State who have been providing security with their native background in hunting couple with high level of exposure came together to reason out the way forward to curb crimes and criminality and to establish a grassroots security  platform to reduce the above mentioned security challenge to a barest minimum . And this was designed to complement other security agencies in the state, to alleviate the people suffering on the part of the encountered security menace.

These in totality led to the formation of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) which was then proclaimed to be a proscribed security organization by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Thereafter, the administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun CON, FCA in the year 2011 felt that the security of its people and their property in Ogun State is paramount to his government. But, because of the proscription of the name Vigilante Group of Nigeira (VGN) by the Federal Government of Nigeria, the group was not acceptable to him not until the group Exco members put their heads together and recoined the name to be what we are having today as Vigilante Service of Ogun State(VSO).
